Let me start by saying... There's a LOT to read to get to know this event, but read on, it's worth it! All your questions should have answers within the event description!
STEP 1 - Invite your friends list and tell your friends about this event! If you'd want to see great stuff on the tables, send out invites to your fashionista friends! The more people that show up, the better a selection there is for you!
STEP 2 - Make sure you're part of the group, and TURN ON NOTIFICATIONS:
STEP 3 - Join the email list! Facebook is becoming harder to use, as I can only send out 100-500 invites. That leaves 2500+ of you NOT getting them. The best way to ensure you get your invite? Sign up for the emails!
STEP 4... Let's SWAP!
So many good reasons to come...
-- An incredible selection of clothing, accessories, costumes, and more, for all ages and genders.
-- Awesome low-cost service providers (tarot, henna, hair, aromatherapy, massage)
-- Door Prizes
-- A great way to shop sustainably and affordably
-- Food truck
-- Fuzzy feeling from knowing that all leftover and non-accepted clothing gets donated to a charity in need.
-- FUN. By the bucketload!

STANDARDS OF QUALITY! WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Damaged, smelly (soaps, perfumes, animal, musty, mold, smoke, etc), stained, worn out, unfashionable, promotional garments/accessories, or generally ratty items will be rejected at the door.
Garments and accessories in excellent condition. For instance, clothing, hats, belts, hair pieces, fashion tights/leggings, bikinis, scarves, jewelry, shoes, maternity, men's, women's, costumes, coats, etc...
-- MEN'S CLOTHES. Basic item rule does not apply to men's clothing.
-- ONLY FIVE BASIC ITEMS per person will count toward item quota on the way in. Does not apply to men's clothing. This keeps the items on the floor exciting and boutique/consignment quality. This worked EXTREMELY WELL at the Winter Swap, and the selection was the best I've EVER seen.
WHAT'S A BASIC ITEM? Basic items are unadorned, untextured, solid color t-shirts, tanks, sweaters, cotton sweat pants. For instance, a shirt that's a solid color but has ruching, fun buttons, or an interesting cut to it would not be considered basic. But if it's a solid color, has no adornment, and the cut is super simple, then it would be considered basic.
-- IN SEASON: Please only bring fashionable, funky, quality goods that are in season, for Men and Women (and everything in-between). ALL SEASONS ACCEPTED for this swap!
-- PLUS SIZES.
-- COSTUMES are ALWAYS welcomed. Please bring any costumes that are in good condition!
-- KIDS clothes. For parents, there will be a separate table to swap kids clothes. These items will count toward neither the entry item or the exit item quotas. This is a separate swap perk, just for parents. ♥

AVOID LONG LINES:
Early drop-off for clothing / check-in can begin at 11:30am (so that you can avoid waiting in long lines when we open doors).
If you come and are not able to find anything, and DO NOT use service providers, you are welcome to a refund of your cover charge. You will not qualify to receive door prizes, and your donated clothes will not be returned. If you have already used service providers, or find items, you no longer qualify for a refund.
WHAT YOU WALK AWAY WITH:
-- Kids/baby clothing is not counted toward item quota on the way in, NOR on the way out, so feel free to bring and swap on the kids table. Please bring it in a separate bag to make it easier for our sorters.
-- Takeaway limit: 20 lbs
-- Winners will be drawn throughout the event. If you're there, you can choose what you want. If you're not, you'll get a text or email to select from what is left.
WHERE DO I TRY ON?
Trying on is out in the open. Please dress appropriately for this (spandex workout clothes to slip things over are highly advised). There will be mirrors throughout the building, but please use each other as mirrors, too - that's part of the fun!
WHERE DO I PUT MY STUFF?
-- There will be a designated "Safe Zone," where you can leave your bags that you want to take home. Shopping in the "Safe Zone" is OFF LIMITS. As this area may not be staffed, please DO NOT LEAVE VALUABLES. Use at your own risk. If you are seen "shopping" in this area, you will be asked to leave.
-- Leave as much as you can at home and use a FANNY PACK! Items may walk off (this includes shoes, so be careful if you take them off), so keep them on you, or don't bring them at all. Thank you!
WILL THERE BE CLOTHES FOR ME?
Unlike many events, the MORE people that come, the BETTER a selection there is. So invite your friends, family, and fashionistas! The more people who you invite who's closets you'd like to raid, the better it gets!
Please send invites to your facebook friends. This events is a grassroots, community run, community organized event. YOU are part of the active co-creators just as much as volunteers and organizers!

HOW DO I LEARN MORE?
FAQ about Seattle Clothing Exchange events:
TO NEWBIES AND THOSE WHO JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT'S UP: https://www.facebook.com/groups/seattleclothingexchange/doc/442021032532258/
Be sure you're in the group (and have turned on notifications):
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE CLOTHES/PROFIT?
Profits from the door go toward the event space, supplies, marketing, volunteer appreciation, and my efforts to keep this event going.
All glam and furred clothing left over will be donated to Camp Conception (a Burning Man camp), and given away at Burning Man to needy, underdressed Burners!
Majority of clothes left over will go to Lifelong / Lifelong Thrift Store or NW Center (depending on their need). Lifelong's mission is to empower people living with or at risk of HIV/AIDS and/or other chronic conditions to lead healthier lives.
Here's hoping to see you there! Please get in touch if there is anything I can do, or questions I can answer. Keep checking back for updates!
As always, thank you so much for helping these events become a great success, fighting for sustainability through your choice in shopping, and for being a loyal supporter of the Seattle Clothing Exchange. You are appreciated.
Love and Light!
